PGY-1 : Medicine (10 Weeks)
There are generally two teams, each with a first, second and third-year/senior resident, and one attending. The third-year residents serve as medicine chiefs for the teams. The attending coverage is provided by core Family Medicine faculty. Morning report is intended to review patients of the post call team.
The on-call team makes bedside rounds with their attending. We have a special teaching session each Wednesday morning, where a Grand Rounds case discussion is led by the chief resident and a core faculty member. Specialty consultants are drawn from the community. We have a broad base of different specialists who are used at the resident's discretion. Residents are on call every fourth day and each resident cares for the patients he or she admits. Residents are not assigned to clinics on the day of call or the day post call. The Residency service is capped for total patients and daily admissions to ensure the best balance of workload and learning.
